(Feb. 25, 2010 / Woden, IA )... After a flood destroyed Ellis Boat Harbor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Parks and Recreation Department had no choice, but to rebuild. It called upon Iowa-based Pier Genius to replace all 60 short finger slips in the marina.

"We went with the Pier Genius dock system based on cost and the ability to adapt it to our existing slip attachment points," said Steve Krug landscape architect for the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department. "Working with the company was easy. They were available for questions and could make changes when needed."

Pier Genius installed its BestDeck hybrid decking for this project. "The dock system is sturdy, well-constructed and easy to assemble. It can be modified to fit existing facilities," said Krug. "The BestDeck material is well-made and very durable, while providing a safe surface for the docks."

BestDeck hybrid decking doesn't contain any wood filler. This results in an expansion tolerance of less than 1/32", while standard composite decking only has around 1/4". Maintenance-free, it has a 20-year warranty with an expected 40-year life.

Meeting the needs of any harbor building situation, from small residential docks to large marinas, Pier Genius offers a full line of shoreproducts. The company also manufactures its revolutionary anti-sway dock frames for the most stable piers in the industry.
